Artist's Comments

This photo gave me a lot of trouble to get to this point!

First of all, the cloud formation is commonly known as a nor' wester (wind from the north west) coming over the southern alps in Canterbury, New Zealand. There is usually a perfectly formed arch of cloud with this warm wind known as the nor west arch that is seen dispersing here.

Ok, so my troubles... even using my GND8 filter I couldnt hold back the light and equalise the exposure so I took one row at one exposure setting then another at a lighter exposure for the foreground.
Well, by the time I did the second row, the clouds had moved hadn't they! poor execution on my part! This would be ok, if I didnt have to use the lighter exposure for some of the clouds, like the parts that werent orange. So this is where the challenge came in, blending the two exposures without any ghosting in the clouds! I think it turned out ok, Id really like to get some opinions on this... ive looked at it for too long!

Oh, taken from the port hills in Christchurch.

First things first, Congrats on capturing this breathe taking scene! The whole scene is well balanced with the rocky foreground slowly fading away into the soft but very dynamic sunset. The distant valley of township has great depth to it, but yet it's quite shallow as well. I love the 50/50 horizon, works well in this shot, mainly because there's so much going on in both the sky and foreground, your eyes don't have to travel too far to scope up the next detail.

I can't say much bad things about this mate, I seriously dig it and think it's one of your best pieces yet. Keep them coming!

Nice landscape mate, but the colors in the clouds and the sky are totally off especially the yellow is way off from normal.

Very good composition on this image. The light is very well filtered, very good highlights and a lots of detail on shadows. That sky is almost the photo strength,
together with amazing colors and a very good white balance!! Finally the post production and sharp is also very good. Sorry my bad english, hope you understand. Cheers
