EDIT: I re edited the file for the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers Iris Awards... its sorta the national photo competition. Anyway, I have lightened some areas and used my new (new from when I edited this first) processing workflow to edit the shot. I got a score of 81% which is a silver award! Im quite happy with that result!

I also entered Smokin' DJ which also won a silver award with 80%

Thanks so much to `kkart for featuring this for my 2nd Daily Deviation and to *MirkyJedi for the kind suggestion and flattering words about this shot!

EDIT:
Slightly larger file (15px higher) to fit within regulations!

Thank you to everyone for all the :+fav:s and support!

This was sort of the point I wanted to get to for sunset on the first day of our road trip up the West Coast - I originally wanted to get to Knights Point (which is the rocks just below the setting sun) but there wasnt quite the view I wanted so we continued to the start of this track which took a good 30-40 mins to walk onto this stony beach (thats not sand - very small + smooth pebbles).
This was the sunset on New Years Eve and we had a perfect full moon rise 30mins after the sun had set which was a cool sight - didnt get any shots tho as we had to go set up camp before night and cook dinner!

The place was ABSOLUTELY sandfly infested - my girlfriend sat down for 5 mins to read while I was enjoying this... she looked down and her blue pants had turned black from the sheer number of sandflies! I hate the little buggers! Needless to say she went back down the track to the car and left me to get eaten alive!
