Matai Falls by mark-flammable Matai Falls by mark-flammable
This was our last falls we visited on the third day before driving home. My girlfriend was well and truly over waterfalls after this and had taken enough photos to keep tourists happy while I ruined the landscape for them!
It was a nice place to end the weekend and I am happy with this composition!

Really like this shot. Nice overall composition, everything balances out well. As Cain mentioned, that overhanging branch is great, really adds to the framing of the falls. Exposure is excellent, especially on the falls man, well done.

LOVE this shot. BTW I'm not a big fan of the black bars on your shots. A bit distracting.

Fair enough! I modelled them off ~Furiousxrs borders which I like. I can see what you mean but I think in most cases they work.
Cheers

Hi Mark,

I think it does work on his "Beach Long Exposure, but it doesn't work here, honestly. I like most of your images a lot more without the borders. They ruin them for me. When someone like wranglerguy gets up the nerve to "criticize", I think it holds some weight. You are one of the best nature photographers here and I don't know why you'd want to do anything that would detract from your work.

The borders are OK on your photos like "Serenity", but when I use my hands to block out the borders, even that photo looks better to me w/o them.

The borders and your logo are classy, but they're better suited for a business card, IMHO.

To me this issue is like some macros which I just love but I can't fav because of the distracting dA watermark.

I hope you don't mind me telling you this. You've done more, by telling me about resizing, to make my photos look better here and to make me love being on dA, than all other deviants combined.

Ok thank you for your honesty. Do you suggest no border or logo then?
Oh and I didnt take his comment as a criticism, more an opinion. I guess if enough people think they are destracting then I should change them.
Also, thank you for thinking I am "one of the best nature photographers here" ... not sure if your right but thank you!

I suggest no border and if you made your logo really small and put it somewhere in each photo, as a "signature", I don't think that distracts at all, just as an artist's signature takes nothing away from his or her paintings.

When I used the word "criticize", I didn't mean it in a bad sense but rather as "constructive criticism". And you're right, of course, it's an opinion and so is what I said. I feel strongly about what I said, but it doesn't mean I'm right.

I think that of the best and most well-known nature or landscape photographers on dA, you truly are among the top five and I don't mean that as false flattery, but just the plain truth. You're in the same league as photographers such as:
:iconvincentfavre:, :iconmichaelanderson:, :iconmarcadamus: and :iconsamuelbitton:.

Ok thank you.
Perhaps Im selling myself short but I dont think Im in the same league as those guys, I look up to all of them!
Thank you again tho!
In terms of the borders, I will take your advice... looking at these top guys, the most border would be Adamus' thin black border. Perhaps I will do some signatures and add replace the logo idea. (my design side coming through!)

Yay! I'm glad!

I do like the very thin black borders as well. sometimes (I've thought of using them myself) and my favorites are either a signature or nothing at all.

Though it's probably not your quest, I think you'll get more favs without the borders. Your "Milky Sea", for instance is mind-boggling and I don't think it would be as much if it had the borders.

Yeah, im going to get this last week and a bit left of uni done and then ill do a big overhaul of my gallery and re-do the best shots with the new borders + signature. I kinda wanna put my logo subtly in but will see how it looks.
